A heartbroken US soccer fanbase shifts at least some of its attention back to its domestic product. It’s not going to be as pretty as the international game, but at least it gives them something to cheer for on the soccer field.

Not that Revs fans got to do a ton of cheering in the season’s opening weeks. Prior to the World Cup break, New England put up a 3-7-2 record. They’ll look to get to work on bettering that mark against Chicago on Sunday night.

Some notes, thoughts, and the like before this one gets started…

Last words (thankfully) from the New England-Seattle laugher.

  • Joseph Niouky was shown his fifth caution of the season in the second half last night and will be suspended for a match. Niouky’s already missed one game after having been shown a red against FC Dallas earlier this season. The first-year midfielder will not dress at home against the Chicago Fire on June 27. With his five yellow cards, Niouky is tied with Toronto FC’s Martin Saric for the most in the league (though Niouky’s done it in one less contest). (more…)

The Revolution look quite healthy heading into tomorrow night’s match against Seattle Sounders FC.

In particular, the backline seems to have some much needed fresh bodies available.

Having played the last few weeks with makeshift center backs in light of injuries to Darrius Barnes and Emmanuel Osei, and having used two players out of position last weekend when Cory Gibbs joined them on the bench, it will be a relief for many to see that these bodies are becoming much more able. Barnes remains listed on the injury report as out, but Osei is no longer listed at all and Gibbs has been upgraded to probable from questionable. Kevin Alston, who did not miss time, was listed as probable earlier in the week. He is no longer listed.

Lineup implications after the jump.

Today’s injury report has a lot of changes from late last week, but overall, excepting Preston Burpo‘s status, they’re positive ones for the Revolution.

While Burpo has been downgraded to out as expected and required by the injury he sustained on Saturday night and the subsequent surgery to treat it, Matt Reis has been upgraded from the same distinction for the first time all season. The keeper is listed as doubtful, clearing the way for his return. Reis’s return to New England will bear serious watching in the next few weeks; it’s not unrealistic to think he’ll be suited up against Seattle, though Bobby Shuttleworth will definitely be drawing the start.

Today’s  Revolution injury report is now available to the public.

Edgaras Jankauskas has been upgraded from doubtful to questionable. Jankauskas is starting to be labeled by most as a bust, or at least a disappointment, but the Revs are in desparate need of anybody who can score. Perhaps he’ll help the club put the ball in net for the first time in 5 matches when New England hosts New York this weekend.

The Revs’ updated injury report has been released, and it carries some good news.

Kevin Alston and Cory Gibbs have both been upgraded to probable.  The duo didn’t play in Wednesday night’s 3-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls after having been listed as questionable on Tuesday.  The report indicates that the two defenders should be good to go tomorrow night.

This is good news for a club that has its seen a lot of injuries in its defense in the last week.  Emmanuel Osei (leg infection) and Darrius Barnes (midfoot sprain) are both still listed as out, but on Wednesday the Revolution played only one natural defender (Seth Sinovic) in the absence of Alston and Gibbs.

The Revolution have released this week’s early injury report.  The club released the report after its first day of training in preparation for its Saturday match against FC Dallas.

Mauricio Castro has been upgraded to probable.  Castro, out with an ankle issue, has not yet played this season.  Zak Boggs is also listed as probable after missing Saturday night’s match.  He suffered a knee and ankle injury in training last week.
