With Ivan Gvozdenovic, Jason Griffiths, and Jean-Baptiste Fritzson currently on trial with a fatigued Revolution club, it seems as though head coach Steve Nicol will attempt to get the trio some game time in tomorrow night’s exhibition against Portugal’s SL Benfica. He said today, courtesy of Revolutionsoccer.net:
“There’s nothing better. Training is training. There’s nothing better than seeing guys actually play in a proper game to see what they’ve got and what they can do on the field.
“The fact that we’ve had so many games means guys are tired. But at the same time, the guys we’ve brought in are absolutely on trial. They’re not here to make up the numbers, so to speak. They’re here to show us what they can do and if they do well, then we’ll certainly be interested in signing them.”

It really is a perfect situation for the Revs to have these three in right now. Five matches in half a month admittedly have the club feeling fatigued and the friendly won’t have any effect on the standings, thereby allowing the three to possibly collect ample time. And as Nicol notes, to see the three have a go in an actual match (especially against one of Europe’s top clubs) should help him and his staff in more adequately judging the trial trio.
Gvozdenovic is a Serbian midfielder/defender, Griffiths a University of Kentucky defensive midfielder out of the UK and a 2010 Revolution SuperDraft selection who elected to further pursue his degree, and Fritzson a successful forward for Haiti’s national team.
Audio of tomorrow night’s match will be streamed at Revolutionsoccer.net. Tickets are also still available.
